This double A sided single is the debut release from Daniel Land who grew up in North Devon and formed his band, the Modern Painters, last year after witnessing a Ulrich Schnauss DJ set in Manchester.
The A side, 'Within the Boundaries', brings back memories of Slowdive in 1991 when that band's music consisted of layers of sound wave over sound wave. They just wash over you here, while Daniel's vocal is very short but works well within the music.
The AA Side, 'Benjamin's Room', is a country song about gay sex. It jangles in a Byrds-style country way, but also sizzles in a shoegaze haze.
Damn perfect if you ask me.
