Posey Hill - No Clear Place to Fall

Label: Posey Hill
Format: CD
Eclectic Americana and bluegrass on latest album from Arkansas family band Posey Hill

Review

The latest album by Alt-country/Americana Arkansas family band Posey Hill, their first of all original songs, has just come out. Sister trio Erin Wisniewski, Megan Burnett and Kristian Miller were raised in the bluegrass tradition by their father, bluegrass picker Doug Burnett and have since augmented this with rock, soul and R&B elements. Produced by Nick Bullock at The Doghouse Studio, Nashville, ‘No Clear Place To Fall’ has at its heart the traditional bluegrass storytelling tradition. Rootsy, rustic, with accompaniment by a range of skilful musicians, the sound is more diverse than before, an appealing mix of genres, bluegrass with country and classic rock. Songs to listen out for in this twelve-track collection include: the melodic opener ‘The First Train’ with its slick blend of acoustic and electric instrumentation; a striking acapella in the poignant, bittersweet single ‘I’m Too Old For This’ with its resilient self-reflection; classic country murder ballad ‘Box Of Pine’, recounted by the victim from the grave; the heart-break ballad ‘I Can’t Be Yours’ with its swirling chorus; the emotive single; ‘Love Me A Little More’; ‘Send Him My Love’ with the sisters’ vocals strikingly attuned to the emotion expressed in the lyrics; and the haunting, soulful R&B-tinged ‘Monster’. Eclectic, with impactful original songs, ‘No Clear Place To Fall’ is bound to appeal to old fans and new.
