Ziguri - Kölsch-Schickert-Erdenreich

Label: Bureau B
Format: CD
Surreal krautrock on debut album from German trio Ziguri, who have reformed after a nearly fifteen year absence

Review

The Kölsch-Schickert-Erdenreich krautrock trio reformed in 2011, having broken up after a decade together in 1997, and this five track ride is their first album. The trio's sturdy and monotonous beats are in neat balance with Schickert's lovely loose guitar loops on the first two tracks; 'General Klickman' and 'Massa'. 'Yoyodyne' - clocking in at four minutes twenty seconds on the album's shortest track - resembles a drone and a yell, the words coming from Thomas Pynchon. Kölsch's vocals breathe surrealism and lyrical puns into 'Goa Constrictor'. While repetitive, there is also chanting humour in these driving krautrock beats. Neither exotic nor eccentric, the album features a wacky take on typical krautrock.
