Review

‘Love is Colder Then Death’ is the first ever completely solo single from ex-Galaxie 500 and Luna frontman, Dean Wareham. The title track is influenced by the 1969 film of the same name directed by the German director R.W.Fassbinder, which, while Dean isn't a great fan of the film, he loved its title. It has a Tindersticks/Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds vibe, but it is pretty much a sing-a-long and with its smooth strings a song to put a stupid grin on this Leonard Cohen face of mine. It has the feel of an alternative Christmas song. ‘She Went Walking in the Rain’ is a cover, a song originally by Cheval Sombre, whose 2012 second album ‘Mad Love’ Dean played on. He is one of Dean's favourite artists at the moment. This is stripped to the bone, very gentle on the ears, and there is a country flow to the tune, which sounds very sad but which is also heartwarming at the same time. A firecracker to warm yourself up to in the winter months.
