Steve McDermott takes photos of Virginian strings folk band Old Sledge at a show in Cardiff

Old Sledge are an old-time hillbilly strings folk band from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. This young group is led by Chance McCoy, a multiple-time Fiddle Champion of West Virginia, and also features Sabra Guzman on rhythm guitar and vocals and Luke Richardson on clawhammer banjo.
They recently released their debut album, ‘Don’t Let Your Deal Go Down’, a collection of often forgotten tunes from the era of early country and blues music, which combines breakneck fiddle tunes with murder ballads, string band blues and swing numbers.
The group spent September and October touring the United Kingdom. This mixture of portrait and live photographs were taken for Pennyblackmusic by Steve McDermott at the Cardiff Gwdihŵ Café Bar On October 2nd.
