Milky Wimpshake - One Good Use for My Heart

Label: Fortuna POP!
Format: 7"
Enjoyable combination of clever lyrics and catchy punk rock on first album in three years from Newcastle trio, Milky Wimpshake

Review

Ever since I ordered the 'Home is Where the Hate is' single from Pennyblackmusic's former shop seven years ago, I have followed Newcastle trio Milky Wimpshake's every step, even though they aren't taking too many, to be honest. There was a time a couple of years ago when they suddenly released a bunch of singles and two albums within a (at least for Milky Wimpshake) short period (they even played here in my native Sweden!), but since then, the band has been on hiatus. Until now. 'One Good Use For My Heart' is the first release from Pete Dale and his friends since 2005, and I am not disappointed! The first song, which is also the title track, is a classic Wimpshake-ish song with clever lyrics and a catchy punk rock tune, and the second track, '(Show Me the Way to) Anarchy' is more of the same, and I love it! Out of the five tracks here, two are cover versions. First up is '(If You Wanna Know the Time Ask a) Policeman', which was originally done by Yummy Fur (a band that released records on Pete's classic Slampt label), and, more surprisingly, 'This Old Heart of Mine (Is Weak for You)', the Isley Brothers hit song, which Wimpshake do a great job with! I see now that I have mentioned every song except one here, so I better write about the last one as well. 'Milky Cliché' has very funny lyrics, that shows Pete's love for rhyming just for rhyming's sake. According to the label, there's a new album on the way next year. Who-hoo!
