Munroe Effect - Who's Throwing Rocks? / Death Clash

Label: Function Records
Format: 7"
Superb debut single from Portsmouth-based indie guitar outfit, Munroe Effect

Review

Munroe Effect's debut single, 'Subterranean Death Clash', opens as all debut singles should, with a heavy-as-sin jarring musical crescendo, before descending into something altogether more beautiful. The song weaves along with brilliant indie guitars and clear vocals from singer Dan Sutton without a hint of imitated accent. The build ups work perfectly and again we come to the jarring crescendo but this time, blended with the rest of the chorus. I understand the band herald the previous Function signings and now defunct Meet Me in St. Louis as major inspirations. It’s apparent in their music but there is something more there. Where St. Louis created fantastic, sparkling spazzy rock, Munroe Effect create a real song out of the crashing noise. It’s immediately more listenable, more intriguing and an entirely different music. The kids will love this. The adults will love this. I fucking love this. Oh, and the other side, 'Who's Throwing Rocks', is awesome too.
