Repeat Repeat - Home Stop Welcome

Label: Soma Records
Format: 12"
Acid house inspired new single from electronic duo Repeat/Repeat, the a side of which was mixed by Andrew Weatherall

Review

Dave Congreve and Mark Rutherford strangely enough put out their original version of 'Homestop Welcome', as Repeat/Repeat, on the B-Side whereas the Andrew Weatherall mix, beefed up with sonic guitar sounds figures as the leading track. Even when using a vocoder, the word welcome on 'Homestop Welcome' has a certain warmth to it. The bubbles, just a little more sophisticated than in old acid house days, support that gentle feeling over which the echoing guitar chords deliver a mind-expanding experience. The original version lays an emphasis on an acid style. Congreve and Rutherford bring on batteries of acid sounds, veering towards bubbly bits that build the rhythm as well as ping-pong synths. A third layer is neatly stuck in. It's a little offbeat, a somehow warped effect that renders a sense of disorientation. 'Homestop Welcome' is a reserved single that DJs should use towards the beginning of an exquisite set. Home listening of it is an extremely pleasent happening. I repeat, repeat, some of my words; sophisticated, slightly warped and warm, Well, tha is what an excellent release on the Soma label is about.
