Unarmed Enemies - Unarmed Enemies Ep

Label: Songs I Wish I Had Written
Format: CDS
Enjoyable synthesiser-based pop on debut EP from up-and-coming Swedish duo Unarmed Enemies

Review

I guess it was just a matter of time. When the Postal Service released their great 'Give Up'album in 2003, they quickly became very popular in Sweden, and as with every band that gets popular you soon have other bands copying them. Unarmed Enemies consists of two boys from Stockholm, and this is their first official release, on the always interesting Songs I Wish I Had Written label. The first track, 'Missing Out', sounds very much like the Postal Service, but on the second song, 'Hustlers Recharged', they sound heavily influenced by another American band, the Faint, with their punky synthpop, or whatever you can call it. Finally, on 'Show Me Your Plans' they sound quite a bit like labelmates Le Sport. I wonder if the title of the song is a coincidence or a reference to Le Sport’s song 'Show Me Your Penis'? Oh well, it’s a good song anyway. There are plenty of other songs by Unarmed Enemies to download from their website www.unarmedenemies.se, among them a cover of the Go-Betweens’ great song 'Going Blind'. Don’t miss it, kids!
