Mark 700 - Cohiba

Label: Fortuna POP!
Format: CD
"Pleasant" debut indie pop from Berkshire group on the Fortuna Pop label, which is vaguely reminiscent of Hefner

Review

Named after an analogue keyboard from the 70's, Mark 700 do not play indie pop that is retro. This is well thought out indie pop of today. The vocals are very like those of Hefner in style, but without the insecurities and the sex. The guitar is crunchy in sound, the keyboards spacey, the cellos fit in neatly when used and the brass is not overbearing. This is very pleasant indeed, while not in your face or earth shattering. It makes a nice album and I'm sure that future releases will build on this.
