San Diego's hardest hitters, Three Mile Pilot, offer up another winner with 'Songs from an Old Town We Once Knew'. An absolutely stunning package of 7" singles and unreleased material that plainly shows how intriguing the band's output has been since their beginning, this 2 disc, 21 track collection evokes plenty of emotion from pain to love, fear to happiness. The writing and the arrangements of the songs are intricate and well thought out. Through the use of different keys and harmonious vocals the band places themselves at a level many indie bands strive to reach. Three Mile Pilot challenges the listener to think and differ from the norm. They never just write songs, but create soundscapes. Essential listening. (Be sure to checkout Three Mile Pilot side projects Black Heart Procession and Pinbeck as well.)
