The career of Soouthport-raised singer-songwriter and musician Holly Lapsley Fletcher, who performs as Lapsley, took off in 2014, when she appeared on the Introducing Stage at Glastonbury, with her debut album ‘Long Way Home’ released in 2016. Her new album, the personal, intimate ‘I’m A Hurricane, I’m A Woman In Love’ marks a departure from her previous electronica approach. A softer, more indie, organic style is on display, key themes discovering new love and the aftermath of break-ups, all the more impactful given the ending of the musician’s relationship with the co-producer. The album is the first the musician has brought out as an independent artist via her own label Her Own Recordings, “an independent record label and community…100% artist-owned.” Highlights of the eleven-track collection include: the convention-defying opener ‘Hurricane’ with its uncompromising stance: “I don’t push the boat out I make storms”; 'Woman Like That’ with its bittersweet reflections on body dysmorphia; synth-driven ‘Jericho’; delicate ‘Church’ with its fiddle and acoustic guitar accompaniment; inspirational, emotive lead single ‘Better’, “about meeting someone that makes you want to change your life”; the folk-inspired ‘Forburg’; and the contemplative closer ‘Lilac Hues’, its subject the choice between two committed relationships and the cost involved in ending one. Honest, affecting, ‘I’m A Hurricane, I’m A Woman In Love’ is an unconventional take on love.
