In a five year period between 1978 and 1983 Derry-formed pop-punk band The Undertones in their original incarnation released four albums, 'The Undertones' (1979), 'Hypnotised' (1980). 'Positive Touch' (1981) and 'The Sin of Pride (1983), and several classic singles including 'Teenage KIcks',(1978) 'Jimmy Jimmy' (1979), 'Here Comes the Summer' (1979) and 'My Perfect Cousin' (1980). They reformed after a sixteen year hiatus in 1999 with Paul McLoone replacing original singer Feargal Sharkey and its other members, John O'Neill (rhythm guitar and backing vocals), Michael Bradley (bass guitar, backing vocals). Billy Doherty (drums) and Damian O'Neill (lead guitar, keyboards and backing vocals), all maintaining their previous roles. They have since recorded another two albums,, 'Get What You Need' (2003) and 'Dig Yourself Deep' (2007). and toured regularly. These photographs were taken by Andrew Twambley at a gig on the 1st April at the Manchester Academy in which Doherty who had had to receive emergency medical treatment was temporarily replaced on the drums by the Undertones' long-term friend Kevin Sharkey.
