Grammy and Brit award-winning iconic soul singer-songwriter Joss Stone has released her first album in seven years, re-uniting with Dave Stewart (Eurythmics). Co-written with Stewart in in his Bahamas studio, then recorded in Nashville, ‘Never Forget My Love’ mixes old-school R&B with 1960s-style orchestration, in a blend of ballads and retro-pop, described by Stone as “Think of Dusty Springfield, Burt Bacharach, Dionne Warwick – those kinds of classy, timeless songs. Think long gloves and a dress.” Tracks to listen out for in this ten-track collection include: the emotional opener, the ballad ‘Breaking Each Other’s Hearts’; the title track, a soulful, mellow love song with its brass, strings, keyboard and funk guitar fusion; the upbeat, catchy celebration of female friendship ‘You’re My Girl’: “We stick together/Through thick and thin/Whatever kind of sadness/We find ourselves in/We help each other laugh/Help each other cry”; the experimental tango track ‘The Greatest Secret (I’m Keeping It To Myself)’; ‘You Couldn’t Kill Me’ a defiant, acerbic farewell to a toxic relationship; and the smooth finale ‘When You’re In Love’. A re-launch album packed with tuneful R&B songs, ‘Never Forget My Love’ puts the focus firmly back on the mellifluous voice of Joss Stone.
