intro
Sporadically brilliant compilation album from Bristol-based musician John Brenton, who has recorded music under various monikers including Southville, Metrotone, Landshipping, Ojn and Tonfedd Oron
Stage One: In 1993 as Southville, John Brenton recorded the footloose, fancy free and carefree folk ditty, 'Inside and Out'. It could have been a good B-Side on a Postcard Records 7 inch. Stage Two: 1998 as Metrotone. Ringing with new wave chords from a thick fog come three lazy vocal tracks. Although not necessarily boring, they're dull as well as pleasant. At the turn of the Century and entering Stage Three, Brenton adopts the Landshipping moniker, embraces electronics and records in 2001 a jewel of an instrumental, 'Snowing'. With his hasty patches, a bit like a William Turner field recording with a brush, the latter stages on this anthology are those I enjoyed best. As Ojn, John Brenton goes on a frantic ride; his machete carving its way through an electronic bush unknownst to him. Most recently John Brenton went fully Welsh. As Tonfedd Oren he managed to devise a catchy melody methodology on three tracks which urges New Order to try a little harder. The last track on the Enraptured anthology goes back to 2012, and it stands within reason there'll be more soon.
