Dr Feelgood - Live at Rockpalast
Label: Repertoire Records
Format: CD

intro

First-rate live CD/DVD recorded at a show at the Metropol in Berlin in 1980 from Dr Feelgood

This release features an audio disc and DVD of a rare sought after show from Metropol Berlin in 1980 which features the second classic line-up of the Canvey- based R ‘n’ B group, The late John 'Gypie' Mayo, having replaced Wilko Johnson, was allegedly working out his notice period, but you would have never guessed judging by this performance. Legendary frontman Lee Brilleaux (voice and harmonica), John B 'Sparko' Sparkes (bass) and John 'the Big Figure' Martin on the skins complete the line-up. The sound quality is pretty impressive on this and the audio disc. The German crowd were treated to some old school R ‘n’ B from opener 'The Best in the World' to the old classics like ‘Stupidity’ and ‘Back in the Night’. The band are clearly in the mood for this, and Brilleaux's harmonica playing is great. Their recent hit single ‘Milk and Alcohol’ is there, and three all times classics close out this performance, ‘She's a Wind Up’ ‘Riot in Cell Block No. 9’ and the brilliant ‘Roxette’. The audio disc is just the same from the soundtrack minus the introduction in German, but it is a good quality product with an informative colour booklet. At eighteen tracks it's a worthwhile acquisition for fans of the band, and anyone who wants to check them out live should own this.
