intro

Impressive debut EP from Barnsley-based indie pop collective, the Salient Braves

Finding romance and beauty in the ordinariness of everyday life has so often been the staple of musicians such as Simon Rivers (The Bitter Springs), Hank Starrs (Animals That Swim) and Davey Woodward (The Brilliant Corners and the Experimental Pop Band), but Barnsley based singer-songwriter Matt Bailey and his fellow Salient Braves have dipped their collective toe in this impressive pool with debut EP, 'Somewhere Sordid'. The title track with its political edge and the softer 'Chance' are the standouts and musically pitch the Salient Braves alongside Bolton’s excellent Decoration, whereas the band’s reading of Kinks’ classic 'Waterloo Sunset' gives it a vintage Stone Roses feel. Overall it’s clear that Bailey’s years of devouring 'Somebody Up There Likes Me' has paid off. Impressive stuff indeed.
