Paul Carrack - Good Feeling
Label: Carrack-UK
Format: CD

intro

Soul-inspired latest solo album from former Ace and Mike and the Mechanics front man and Roxy Music keyboardist, Paul Carrack

Grammy award winner Paul Carrack has had one hell of a career. From Ace to a stint with Roxy Music, from Squeeze to Mike and the Mechanics, with collaborations a plenty and solo records too, the man has been busy. This self produced album promises some feel good tunes, and that classic Carrack blue eyed soul and opener 'Good Feelin' About It' is breezy and upbeat. ‘Marmalade Moon,’ co-written with Squeeze’s Chris Difford, puts me in mind of the Commitments with storytelling, horns and organs, while 'Nothing Without You' adds some funk to the mix. ‘I Can Hear Ray,’ is a collaboration with Charlie Dore and name checks Ray Charles. It is a slower track and a bit of a grower. On first listen it seems a little too earnest and self conscious, but in reality it is just gentle and mellow. 'If I Should Fall Behind' is another peaceful track. 'From Now On' is a new version of Nick Lowe’s original. 'I Don't Wanna Lose Your Love' is the weakest track, a little too easy listening by numbers for me, and 'When My Little Girl Is Smiling' is as sentimental as the title suggests. This soul inspired album is more proof, as if it were needed, of Mr Carrack’s talent as both a performer and producer. His distinctive voice is losing nothing of it's warmth or quality forty years into an accomplished and varied career. Carrack has nothing to prove ,and this album has a real sense of a man doing something he loves.
