Conformist - Savages Go Modern
Label: Conformist
Format: CDS

intro

Unchallenging and ultimately dull electronica on debut single from Conformist, the project of Cardiff-based musician Michael Simmons

The information I can find about Conformist has lead me to expect a Welsh version of 65Days Of Static. The man behind the name, Michael Simmons, is touted as an 'electronic cut-and-paste wizard' who 'manipulates .. intricate layers of sounds.' 'Savages Go Modern' bursts out the gate with drums, samples and synth. For the most part it treads the thin line between complex and interesting and too much noise well. After the initial explosion the track steps back to give each element a chance to be properly heard. Simmons deserves the cut and paste tag because that is the overwhelming feeling I am left with, that this has all been pieced together. Listening to it I was initially unaware that the track was looping on my CD player because it seems to lack a climax or ending. It could just play continuously once started, a little more challenge would have improved it.
