Elektrocution - Trouble Magnet

Every few years, young men get together and decide to reintroduce the world to dirty, scuffed -up rock’n’roll. Elektrocution hail from Rouen, France, and on their second longplayer, the quintet kick out some impressive jams. The singing (all in English) is suitably ragged, the tunes rarely attempt to break the three-minute mark. The guitars are full of spindly tension and nervous energy on tunes like ‘Somewhere Else’, but they also have a good line on melancholic crunch - not dissimilar to Baby Woodrose - on ‘Everything I Touch I Break’. The music of the Hives echoes through several tunes, albeit without hitting the same manic heights. The borderline psychedelia of ‘Babylon By Bus’ - the album’s longest song by a good 90 seconds - borders some of the groovier sound of the more rocking Britpop exports. On ‘Out Of Breath’ they step things up to a breakneck pace, with muffled chords adding some extra motor, while the riff on ‘Rise To The Sun’ sounds like something the White Stripes might appropriate. Fans of Scandinavian rock explosion bands like Mando Diao, Puffball and the Flaming Sideburns should find another band to enjoy in the Elektrocution.
