intro
Fabulous third instalment in his 'Street Legal' series, spead over two ten inch vinyl EPs, from breakbeat pioneer, Rennie Pilgrem
One of the pioneers of breakbeat, Rennie Pilgrem delivers the third instalment of the 'Street Legal' series. It is in fact a fabulous collection of album length and of eight original tunes and no remix business. '3' kicks off with two very memorable tunes, 'One Time' and 'Here We Go', that blend nu skool breakz, clubhouse and dub. Bleeping synths clash with deep basses that are reminiscent of upright 1990s ragga frenzy. 'Dream 104' provides a moment of contemplation, but the sexy and jumpy clubhouse of 'Revolution 7' rounds off the first 10 inch in this double set and brings it back to the dancefloor. Galloping on 'Deep End' (Rennie Pilgrem Vs Left Step Band), London rapper Ef Le Ref stars on a rolling tune that should make the charts and toys with the track title - thee bender. On the more downbeat next track 'Machine' Rennie Pilgrem shows how he has matured. 'Machine' could be performed with acoustic instruments and would still sound great. Dubby meditation combined with a dry and funky backbeat makes you swoon whilst dancing on 'Meguro K'. 'Ambient 124' closes it off in a way that would expect from the title.
