Dazzling latest single from New York-based electronic duo, the Hundred in the Hands
Another month marks another band trying their hand at electro pop, and this time it’s the turn of cooler-than-thou duo the Hundred in the Hands. Their latest single 'Commotion' is no doubt bound for a dance floor near you soon, recalling the work of Ladyhawke, the Long Blondes or more recent 80's revivalists such as Hurts, and coupling an evident passion for keyboards with altogether more unexpected influences – Elanore Everdell’s echoed vocals ring with fragility, but ooze a coolness that mightn’t have sounded out of place for Debbie Harry, while Jason Friedman’s guitars are reminiscent of bands such as Editors or even Interpol. Thus, while the band’s predecessors may have left a stamp on their sound, one can’t deny the fact that the big, bold melodies of this track are impressive – they mightn’t be tearing up your preconceptions of their genre, rather sticking to the maxim, "If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it." Combining both style and substance to dazzling effect, it’s highly likely that The Hundred in the Hands will be causing a commotion in mainstream music sometime very soon.

The Hundred in the Hands (2010) |
Mildly disappointing and anonymous debut album from disco pop-infused New York duo, the Hundred in the Hands, which fails to live up to the promise of their outstanding earlier EPs |
