intro
Excellent and varied first album in four years from bestselling Irish act, the Saw Doctors
'The Further Adventures of the Saw Doctors' is the Galway-based band's first new album in four years. Formed back in 1986, which was the year that their latest drummer Eimhin Craddock was born, the group sitll features founding members Davy Carton on vocals and Leo Moran on lead guitar. The Saw Doctors are full-on rockers and constantly tour the world and are one of Ireland's biggest musical exports, with only U2 being internationally better known. 'Takin' the Train' starts the journey. It is a massive anthem of a track and a song to wake you up and make you feel alive recalls the Alarm. 'Friday Town' is a cheerful number about leaving work on a Friday night, while 'Someone Loves You' is slow and soft and adding strings sounds like an Irish version of the Byrds or Crowded House. 'Hazard' is a ballsy and passionate number. while 'Indian Summer' is softly played, strummed well and a gentle ballad which is very reflective. 'Well Byes' is an equally fiery drinking song. 'Be Yourself' is a slow rocker, a head nodding song, while 'Last Call', another gentle number, is moody and a song to sway too. 'As the Light Fades' is elegant, and quickly draws you in, while 'Songs and Stars' is as peaceful as a snow filled day. 'Goodbye Again', the last track, is another fiery rocker. An excellent and varied album from the Saw Doctors.
