Label: Passport
Format: 7"

intro

Abrasive new vinyl only single from former Birthday Party member Roland S. Howard, which is the title song from his first solo album in ten years

'Pop Crimes' is the title track and debut single from Rowland S Howard's first solo album in ten years, and will only be released in Australia. Rowland has been in bands since the late 70s and his groups have included the Boys Next Door, the Birthday Party, These Immortal Souls and Crime and and the City Solution along with many others. 'Pop Crimes' is very indie-based and has a killer bass line and gritty guitar to back it up, The drums play a hard solid groove, while Rowland's vocal is similar in style to Lou Reed and Iggy Pop. As it moves along it develops a Television-style groove, while Rowland's vocal becomes much more moving and demanding of attention. It is more like hearing a live experience then just listening to a record. '(I Know) A girl Called Jonny' is a duet that features Rowland and HTRK singer, Jonnine Standish, and whou sound on it like Richard Hawley and Louise Werner from sleeper doing a drug-fuelled anthem as written by Lee Hazlewood.
