intro

Meditative seven-track debut mini-album from cellist Andy Nice, who has worked Orbital, Cradle of Filth, Instrumental, Luke Haines’ Baader Meinhof and Tindersticks

The folks at Front and Follow would like us to know that Andy Nice has played with Orbital, Cradle of Filth, Instrumental, Luke Haines’ Baader Meinhof and Tindersticks. And, with 'The Secrets of Me' being mastered by Gallon Drunk’s Terry Edwards who sometimes can be found lending his talents to Tindersticks, the latter might be a good place to start for referencing these compositions. I’ve always loved the melancholy and mournful sound that a cello can produce and this multi-tracked recording is a showcase for this cool and reflective part of the cello’s range. Beautifully played, the first six instrumental compositions reveal themselves in tightly arranged meditative layers that elegantly circle and loop like lullabies for architects. Everything is well accounted for. The last song on this seven-track recording, 'Somebody Take Me Home” features the hushed vocals of Maple Bee and provides a sweet surprise and an elegant resolution to this mini-album. I am not sure how much is revealed about Andy Nice with 'The Secrets of Me' but it is a lovely little calling card with the promise of a provocative engagement somewhere in the future.
