Sky Saxon - 1937-2009

intro

Sky Saxon, the front man with 60's grunge punks the Seeds, died in June. Anthony Strutt reflects and looks backs on his life

Sky Saxon, born Richard Marsh and otherwise known as Sky Sunlight Saxon, died on June 25th 2009. That day will remain a bad day in musical history as it was also the day that Michael Jackson also died. Sky to me, however, meant more even though he was less well known. Sky was a founder member and the front man with 60's grunge punks the Seeds, whose six albums,'The Seeds', 'A Web of Sound', 'Future', 'A Full Spoon of Seedy Blues', 'Raw and Alive' and 'Rare Seeds', were remastered and reissued on Edsel Records in 2001. In recent years, Sky toured almost constantly, including playing dates in Britain, and also found time to release three new Seeds/Saxon albums, 'Red Planet' (2004), 'Transparency' (2005), which matched those of his work of the 60s. He remained full of life until the end and had a number of new bands on the go. I was lucky enough to able to conduct his last ever interview which can be found here : http://www.pennyblackmusic.co.uk/MagAdminPages/ArticleEdit.aspx?id=5031 Sky Saxon, I hope that you find your garden in the sky. I will miss you. Thanks for everything, and stay beautiful.
