intro
Anthony Strutt watches Los Angeles-based band the Warlocks play a passionate set of psychedelic rock at the Islington Bar Academy in London
The Warlocks' set at the Islington Bar Academy was full of very loud, distorted guitar drone psychedelic rock, of the variety we no longer have sadly have much of, the sort of stuff that Spacemen 3 made a name for themselves playing. The Warlocks, who come from Los Angeles, have now released countless albums, on various labels. Each one is slightly different but all are mind consuming, and feature classic music to get lost into. They played too a hardcore base, and the venue was jammed full with fans, all consumed for the love of this band. Even singer Bobby Hecksher was seen to smile, as were all of us. A great gig by a brilliant band. 70 minutes of great guitar music, the way it was meant to be played, loud, and full of passion.
