intro
Excellent new EP from Sheffield-based electronic act Black Dog, which pays tribute to Robert Hood, Detroit master of techno
The Black Dog's tribute to the demi-god of techno Robert Hood has materialized on their forthcoming 'Sheffield vs Detroit' EP. First of all there is the snappy little original of 'Train By The Autobahn' with bellowing acid house bits meant to lead you astray. Part 3 of 'Train By The Autobahn'-there's no part 2 actually-prolongs that sense of transportation in minimalistic style. The most elaborate rendering of 'Train By The Autobahn' is Robert Hood's though. It is his 8 Mile remix. This version both deconstructs the original, and strips it bare of all those lush effects, only to be worked over with spacious beats and extremely subtle edits. The extra track 'Siiiipher' is another nice practice. All in all, this EP stands as a tribute, not as a statement. The Black Dog is ageing, but with dignity it must be noted.
