intro
Predictable bubblegum pop on debut album from Canadian-based band, No Kids
Is this a bit of a wonder or not? Two guys, one gal and still No Kids. Julia Chirka, Justin Kellam and Nick Krgovich used to be members of P:ano and they're from Canada. Don't be fooled now. Not each and every band from Canada serves as an extraordinary strong sleeping pill. No Kids perform white funk bubblegum pop music that would sound reasonably exciting in places like Toronto or Calgary. 'Come Into My House' however shares the same feeling of tension as going into an IKEA megastore and it should be known that this album would be one of the best things on offer there. What No Kids lack in excitement, they make up for with a wealth of inspiration, yet those are of rather tame and predictable influences. It is all perfect rocking-chair muzak performed with great ease. That much must be acknowledged, 'Come Into My House' veers dangerously towards corny would-be cleverness. In my book, No Kids rank very close to another outfit I don't care about in the slightest manner possible; Arcade Fire. Granted, No Kids know a little more about subtlety and their sulks show more charm. No Kids, however, languish in suburban, middle class boredom. I've been very harsh on Canadian culture before. 'Sonatine' is the epitome of boredom. It's a well-regarded film, but made in that very same Canada. Facts have to be faced. Despite being a wealthy nation, Canada, does produce a lot of drivel. No Kids are quite tolerable though but they're definitely in a different league from Malajube and Of Montréal. Another recommendation for this No Kids album is that it was produced without any Canadian government funds. Believe it or not, some bands in Canada get money from the government. No wonder that the majority of Canada's culture is dreadfully boring.
