Tunng - Good Arrows
Label: Full Time Hobby
Format: CD

intro

Over precise and somewhat dull third album from acclaimed electro folk rockers, Tunng

Discovered first by Static Caravan Records, whilst still aligned with the Full Time Hobby record label, Tunng have found a new home at Play It Again Sam in the UK and Europe, and at Thrill Jockey Records in the USA. For the release of 'Good Arrows' many a MP3 blog aficionado has been given a treat with plenty of pro-active web surfing from the band and their label. Tunng certainly cannot be blamed for stretching no good bows. 'Good Arrows' comes as both an LP and CD, while a special edition, which is available as the first run of CDs, features two extra tracks. Preceded by the excellent single 'Bricks' and after a wonderful debut, 'This is Tunng-Mother's Daughter and Other Song', and an excellent second album 'Comments of the Inner Chorus', expectations have run high for Tunng's third album. Probably too high to be honest. The full sound of the production of 'Good Arrows' comes as a welcome development with the gentle tingle ringing purer than before and the intimacy appearing even closer, in spite of this album being Tunng's first to feature all six members of its line-up, what is bothering is how a couple of songs simply don't sink in. The album's relative dullness comes from a too close eye for detail; finger-clicking sounding as if it is oming from the loudspeaker set behind you. Police sirens towards the end and subtle digital clicks throughout many tracks on the album are not able to come to the rescue. As soft-spoken, vulnerable and intimate as this album is, one cannot help reaching for 'Comments of the Inner Chorus'. 'Good Arrows' offers an EP wealth of great tracks.
