intro
Forceful double CD compilation, which compiles together their vinyl only early releases, from groundbreaking electronic act the Black Dog
Demi-gods to many devotees of their music, the Black Dog helped to shape the sound of today's electronic music with - in hindsight - the aid of small means. Records by The Black Dog paved the way for downbeat techno music and 'The Book of Dogma' portrays the first trails on which The Black Dog wagged its tail. This double CD includes their first EPs and album in chronological order and in much better sound quality now. The hiss in their trademark layer of dubby synthesizer tones is now set clearer against the rhythms. At the time of the release of these first EP's and LP Ken Downie, Ed Handley and Andy Turner were recognized musicians already, so in a sense the 'Book of Dogma' is not really an unearthed treasure. This Soma release celebrates the Black Dog sound, however, with greater perspective. Ken Downie, Ed Handley and Andy Turner sniffed at so many styles, chewed on quite a few and then even ate and shat, or spat, out some., which explains why dogs return to their vomit and as to why they eat other dogs' excretia. Their first EP is re-issued already and this double CD covers all their vinyl releases through time. Even if you bought those first time around, it is compulsory buying.
