intro
Rockabilly-inspired second single from her second solo album, 'The Deep Blue', for ex-Ash guitarist Charlotte Hatherley
‘I Want You to Know’ is the second single from Charlotte Hatherley’s second solo album, ‘The Deep Blue’, and follows on from ‘Behave’, which was released on 7” vinyl only in November of last year. While Charlotte’s first album, ‘Grey Will Fade’ was released while she was still in Ash, she felt her song writing wasn't being answered there with such a strong writer as Tim Wheeler already in the band and taking most of the writing credits. As a result, she never liked that first album, and has sold her property to fund ‘The Deep Blue’, which has been released on her own label, Little Sister, and so that she can tour it with her new live band. While ‘Behave’ was reminiscent of Kristin Hersh in its quirky pop offbeat sound, ‘I Want You to Know’ starts off sounding like a rockabilly track and the Raveonettes before becoming more thrashy and girl pop in manner. It is definitely one for fans of the Shop Assistants. ‘Sister Universe’, the first of the B sides, at first sounds gentle and folkish, before the power is turned up a lot of units to full blast. ‘Suspiria’, the other B side, is easy-on-the-ear with its jangling guitar. It is pleasantly sung, and again sounds again like Kristin Hersh.
