Young Canadians - No Escape
Label: Sudden Death
Format: CD

intro

Enjoyable compilation from late 70's Vancouver-based punks Young Canadians, which, despite a somewhat poor quality, is definitely worth checking out

This compilation from Sudden Death Records brings together all the work of Vancouver's Young Canadians. Singer, guitarist songwriter Art Bergman, together with bassist Jim Bescott and drummer Barry Taylor formed the band in 1979 and were playing around the same time as DOA and the Subhumans. Musically, this is first time around punk and despite the band only lasting 3 years, they recorded 3 EPs with enough material to put together this somewhat belated, by about 25 years, album. I have to admit I was unaware of them despite liking 70s/80s punk - maybe because of their short career and them being Canadian-but I enjoyed it. If, like me, you like old style punk and haven't heard of them, despite the somewhat dubious quality of its recording, 'No Escape' is definitely worth checking out.
