intro
Polished, but ultimately empty 80's inspired dance rock from new act, Beach
When I heard about Beach’s debut album I was really looking forward to listening to it. It has been described as “a shimmering blend of retro rock and 80’s funky dance,” but when I put the CD on I was disappointed. The music on it is by no means bad, but sadly it is not that great either. The album is very polished and doesn’t really pull off the "rock" music description, unless it’s in the context of McFly. As for "funky dance" I can see where the idea has come from as some of the tracks have a drum machine in the background and a few disco sounds chucked in. But the music doesn’t make me want to get up and dance at all. I really wanted to like this album but I find it bland. The music really needs some more depth. If Beach wants to make funky dance than he needs to create rhythms strong enough to pull it off. I really hope that by his second album he will have discovered a sound of his own and maybe pulled away from making music with such a commercial and polished, but empty finish.
