intro
Initially entertaining, but ultimately monotonous sing-along trash rock from debuting LA punk act, Nervous Return
“What’s going on with their eyes?” says my Mum as she sees the inside cover artwork of "Headhsots' which shows the 4 band members in the Nervous Return with the whites of their eyes enhanced, and I think this sums up quite well what’s going on in the record. This album is filled with sing-along trash rock and I have to say that at first it all feels rather good. The opening track, 'Murder Weapon', is one of those tracks you could see yourself walking through the streets of New York to if someone ever made a film of your life and then exaggerated it by a few steps so you looked sexy and were played by Brad Pitt. It takes cool squeezes. It mixes it with vodka and then serves it to you in a glass with ice. I found, however, that 'Headshots' quickly became very repetitive and by the end it had in my eyes become lounge-core, backing music to a poorly shot underground film style and had run very thin. On the other hand from reading about them on their website (www.thenervousreturn.com) I reckon that their live show would be pretty incendiary and that showmanship is exactly what this album needs to bring it to life and to make you feel if even for a second that you are Brad Pitt, you are walking through New York and someone is making a film of your life.
