The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation is the experimental alter-ego of the Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, and 'Egor' is their fourth LP.
Recorded live at the DOM theatre in Moscow, this four track (seventy minute) album takes the textures of their previous work to new levels of unease. Doomjazz as a genre is essentially Darkjazz, but with a more menacing air.
It’s a minimalist genre, with textures and drones taking the place of conventional melody in an attempt to create certain moods or sensations within the listener. As a genre, Doomjazz has a limited appeal – indeed, one Doomjazz radio station offers the following description of its channel: Dark, industrial/ambient music for tortured souls.
Over the course of the album, the listener is taken on a trip – not necessarily a pleasant one. The music is deliberately unsettling and yet I find it strangely relaxing. It is difficult to describe the album, because it is deliberately nondescript. As someone who is a fan of the genre, I can, however, say that this is one of the better Doomjazz albums I have heard.
I would recommend that anyone with an interest in Doomjazz have a listen to www.somafm.com/doomed . Here you will find an extensive selection of Doomjazz artists. If you do like the genre, then the Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation is a perfect place to continue your journey.
