Release Notes:
Press Release:
Pea Sea's debut album recorded with Field Music s David and Peter Brewis on production and backing band duties.
Here's some info about Pea Sea himself:
Originally hailing from the border town of Gretna, Pea Sea is no stranger to the North East. As a member of cult outfit Les Cox Sprotifs, he (Chris Rollen) has made a few friends and fans with their particularly satirical/earnest brand of anti-rock and roll. The Cox were recently covered by such local luminaries as The Cornshed Sisters (Dresden) and Milky Wimpshake (Omnia Mea Mecum Porto) respectively as well as invited to open for Maximo Park in Germany.
But before Les Cox there was Pea Sea, an outlet for Rollen s more introverted songs, which show a love of Silver Jews and Smog narratives and Robert Burns-esque sentiment. It was the a set of such ditties at our very own Morden Tower that drew David Brewis to invite Pea Sea to record some songs at the new Field Music studio in Sunderland - with Field Music as backing band: an offer not to be dreamt of let alone turned down!
The resulting tapes have been on ice since Rollen s move to Berlin and the story could have ended there but for the encouragement of friends and Les Cox's label Sea Records to bring the songs together as an album proper.
So, The Debatable Land is a nostalgic journey for Pea Sea through old stomping grounds and record collections, old photo albums, love letters and text messages.
