In the early 21st century, Pelle Carlberg used to be the singer in band called Edson, a band that was a carbon copy of Belle and Sebastian, more or less, but they had some good songs nevertheless. A couple of years ago, Pelle decided to go solo, and now his third album as a solo artist is here.
On his last album, 'In a Nutshell', he seemed to be annoyed with a lot of things in his world, and wrote some songs that was just meant to be provocative. Among them were 'Go to Hell, Miss Rydell' (about a music critic called Malena Rydell, who wrote a negative review of one of his albums) and 'Musikbyrån Makes Me Wanna Smoke Crack' (about a music show on Swedish television).
And on this new album, 'The Lilac Time', he's at it again. This time, he hates animal lovers among other things. I just can't understand why he's doing this. Back in the days of Edson, he wrote lyrics about holding hands with the one he loved and renting a movie, which might sound a bit too cute and twee, but I definitely prefer it to this new lyrical style.
And the music ? Well, it's still like Belle and Sebastian to me...
