The Panics hail from Perth, Australia, but have strong connections with Manchester in the United Kingdom,, having been supported by and signed to the Happy Mondays’ Label, littleBIGMAN. Their first two albums were both recorded in Manchester, and their latest CD, 'Cruel Guards', which has come out on Dew Process, has gone gold back home selling 35,000 copies.
This new seven inch, their latest release on the new Passport Label, has been released on black vinyl, and is double A sided with both sides playing at 33rpm.
‘Don't Fight It’, the A side, is horn based ,and sounds like an anthem for lighter holders on a beach on a summer’s night. It is very easy listening and in the style of James Blunt or David Gray.
‘Get Us Home’’ the double AA side ,is a better song to my ears. While singer Jae Laffer’s vocals again recall David Gray, it has lush strings which give it an element of Scott Walker and there is also a touch of Motown thrown in. A twangy guitar gives some spice to it adding some further coolness to it's appeal.
