Out of New Hampshire, USA, comes the Princeton Reverbs Colonial with their new full length"...and the flute to float the soldiers sword." Glorious fuzzy powerpop is what can be expected.
The use of xylophone, flute, and Fender Fhodes add to the already potent GBVisms. Songwriting is above par.
The record is a concept of sorts. All songs, artwork and narration tell the story of the Princeton lads as they travel the globe singing songs to people everywhere as a means of bringing them hope(that's all I'm saying).
Singer/guitarist Paul Vittum( who by the way, along with bandmate Darren Cloutier runs Red Carpet Ring records) pens great pop songs in the vein of Bob Mould and Cheap Trick. The comparisons, however, end there as the PRCs definitely have their own sound. A sound that is refreshingly original in its conception and execution.
Vocal harmonies are what gives the record an extra kick out of the lo-fi rock category. Not to mention the heartfelt earnestness.
One must appreciate the work that went into every aspect of this record. A true DIY effort which also features guestwork from members of Fablefactory, Masters of the Hemisphere, and Kincaid.
All and all, a fantastic record which deserves to be listened to and enjoyed. Have I mentioned the bonus tracks yet? Be sure to check out the interview with the Princeton Reverbs Colonial in this issue.
