Lookup:
This Copenhagen trio produce richly orchestrated pop music, and merge 1980's new wave with rather thunderous bubble gum blasts of noise. This is the sort of music that used to get played, for example, by Janice Long on Radio 1, but today is probably better left for the playlists for 6Music and Radio 2. While it has I suppose been produced for iPads and MP3 players, the album is a skinny mess when it is listened to on headphones. The vocals are rather flat, but then again Danish is a language with an exceptional pronunciation, as opposed to those easily understandable Swedish bands who sing in English for example. Call it exalted mumbling, if you will.
The bombastic manoeuvres in the dark on 'Breach' perhaps come off better on sharply mastered and well-cut vinyl. On CD it is digital diarrhoea. The best fun I had was on the opening track 'Telly the Truth', the single 'The Springsteen Implosion' and the very radio-friendly 'Beauty Still Rebels'. Kissaway Trail loves to toil over words and idiom. 'Sarah Jevo' takes the icing. Combined with the synthesizer stamina of a healthy storming Norman, 'Breach' makes enjoyable background listening.
