I swear I've seen a half dozen or so bands that do what the Hives do, to the same (if not better) capacity. Check out The Quitters (Garage Pop) if you want to hear the true blue american version. I saw the Hives open for the Interantional Noise Consp. (which I walked out on) and think they did pretty good live, but short of the lead singers skinny ass and big lips, he failed to be the "McJager" people call him. I'll say "go TOTALLY, see them live!" but I can't imagine listening to their CD at home.

Seen on Jules Hollands Later, the frontman of this hyper Swedish outfit impressed this oldster with his sheer exuberance and energy. His over the top stirring of the audience obviously hit a mark. Clearly a band which owes much to the influence of some of the greats of the Sixties, he put me in mind of a cross between the young Jagger and Ray Davies. Backed by a particuarly exuberant bass player, with a lead guitarist who almost let go in best Who style, I think this is a band who will go down well on the tour circuit. The sound is perhaps not as commercial as some around at the moment, although the sucess of the Strokes and White Stripes suggests there may be a market for the knock 'em dead two and a half minute rock pop that so many of us grew up on.I loved it!

Sweden's the Hives are one of the most hyped bands of the moment . Denzil Watson, however, discovers at a recent Sheffield show behind all their showmanship and energy "a chronic lack of good tunes."
