From a commercial point of view, drum and bass music may have run its course having received in 2009 credits and praises all over the place. Yet Kromestar truly nailed down this past year with his dubstep triple LP set 'The Other Syde'.
He has captured on it both pounding buzz'n bass extravaganza as well as echoing subtlety on 'The Other Syde' and it features big, bad dubstep anthems, full of breezing splendour and filled with hefty bubbles.
'The Other Syde' predominantly deals with dubstep music recovered from the ashes of hiphop and drum and bass. For a long time Kromestar kept in hiding and now resurfaces only to blow you away with home truth dubstep wisdom. 'Badman', 'Wooo' and 'Off Da Hook' dig very deeply and these tracks come up as if from the dark. 'The Other Syde' is a double CD-set that first introduces a dub mix and subsequently a bundle of individual groovy belters.
It focuses in particular on the latter, and please bear in mind here Kromestar is a skinny, spotty white kid with tattoos, 'The Other Syde' astonishes all the way down. Fat funk riddims not shy of deep bass explorations set the tone as Kromestar crawls through the depths of dub.
