Release Notes:
"POLK" is the second release to come from Portland, Oregon based Tracker. The
project of recording-man John Askew, POLK pulls more from his song writer
suitcase; offering close-up recording snapshots that are patient, arid, and epic
wanderings for the super-8 movie... Askew played and recorded most of the
instruments himself while bringing in the POLK cast of fellow messers for
occasional visitations: Michael Schorr- drums (Death Cab for Cutie), Dave
Harding- bass (Richmond Fontaine), Raymond Richards- pedal steel (The Idaho
Falls), Chris Funk- pedal Steel and noises (The Decemberists), John Nygren-
voice (Buellton), Erik Herzog-drums (Buellton), Cliff Hayes-bass (Buellton),
Matt Ward- Organ, Adam Selzer-guitar, drums (Norfolk & Western), Paul Brainard
pedal steel (Richmond Fontaine). Tracker has been well received by the press
including reviews in MOJO, The Sunday Times, and also received airplay on John
Peel. Tracker has shared tour dates with Giant Sand, Black Heart Procession,
Howe Gelb, Calexico, The Kinsbury Manx, The Court and Spark, M.Ward, Norfolk &
Western, and others. Open warehouse, noir-esque, and ambient, "POLK" combines
desolate song and instrumental expanse with warm, full studio recordings. Found
on the same roadway as Camper Van Beethoven, Giant Sand and Califone.
