Marco Bernardi a.k.a. Octogen is a busy young man. He has pulled off a hat trick of releases already this year and soon remixes of 'The Journeyman' and 'Square Bells' will hit the racks.
Hot on the heels of Octogen's 'Square Bells' EP comes this coupling of remixes, Orlando Voorn beefing and pumping it up on 'The Journeyman' plus the original culled off Octogen's forthcoming album, added with the Marco Bernardi Robotic Disease mix and the Gosub Key West remixes of 'Square Bells' on the B-side. Orlando Voorn shows off with class and style. The original 'Journeyman' is in stark contrast quite and spacey and an after party floor filler with a dry pattern.
The Robotic Disease remix from Marco Bernardi adds an Italo touch but he cleverly puts it against a twisted loop, for full-on disorientating effect. Irresistable after already only a couple of breaks, the robot sound eventually winds off and 'Square Bells' stops bellowing.
The names of the remixes tend to give away the themes and next Gosub Key West dives under the watersurface, blowing up bubbles and sending subdued vibes. It is not as tropical as Key West though may suggest. There is no salsa flava for example, but instead an edgy layer of rather Northern and austere techno grooves. A bit of mind play really.
