Sadly, Guff live up to their name, and, if you make the mistake of putting their record on, it will stink up the place so bad you may have to open a window and leave the room for half an hour or so.
This is about as standard as standard punk can get, from the boring riffs and vocals, to the angst-ridden album artwork (the cover shows a beaten-up doll that has been torn open to reveal its pink brain-like stuffing – some little girl probably loved that doll once. *sniff*), right through to their awful “oh, the world’s awful” lyrics. The worst of these lyrics appear on the album’s second to last track, ‘I Can See It In Your Eyes’ (although, to be fair to Guff, this song is apparently an unreleased Journey song given to the band to cover by Journey’s own Steve Perry. Yeah, cheers mate). The song opens with “Babe, too bad, I used to love you girl. I don’t care no more about your face” Grammar?! “No, you make me mad, the way you cat around with your lips and your legs”. What a hussy, brazenly walking around with her lips and legs.
All in all, Guff are infinitely less entertaining than their name-sake, and just like a fart in a lift, it’d probably be best if we all just face forward and pretend we haven’t noticed them.
