Oh yes! Firstly much to the derision of my more trendy colleagues I love cheesy camp pop. ABBA ? Steps ? S Club 7 ? I love them all. They are there for a reason, which is to be sung along with and to dance drunkenly to at 2 in the morning.
Problems, however, start occuring when the creators of this music start taking themselves too seriously, which I thought was going to be an issue with BabyPinkStar with their reworking of Bonnie Tyler's 'Total Eclipse of the Heart'.
But on listening to it you get the feeling that all involved knew this was nothing more than an attempt to cash in on an already catchy tune to maybe revive a flagging career and also to create a new one.
So what is there to say about the actual tune? Well, if you took the original, added a healthy dose of cigarettes or whisky to Bonnie’s voice and then covered the whole track with hair metal guitars and gruff male vocals, you are getting somewhere close!
IT’S F*CKING BRILLIANT!
I have ever sworn in writing a review before but this piece of pop blew my socks off, I don’t know if I would buy it but if it meant I got to see them on TV I most definitely would!
