Fresh new faces on the college radio indie rock front, foursome Soular prove quite capable of hooks, tight melodic FM rock and, to top all that, they have a good singer in front man Marsh Shamburger.Soular's clean grunge sound incites plenty of toe-tapping and emphatic sing-alongs, but that's not a good thing.
Soular present some fine tracks with a good drive but end up sounding quite mediocre, especially in the closing track. The teen angst mini symphony of 'Tomorrow Never Comes' has quite over the top U2-ish bombast that never reached the end on my CD-player. I hasten to add that Coldplay also leave me entirely cold and the piano breaks on this, Soular's second album, hint at Coldplay or Keane status. Good stuff for listening in when stuck in traffic jams.
