Love As Laughter are a Seattle based band that was spawned from the mind of Sam Jayne, following the break-up of his previous band, Lync. Previous releases from Love As Laughter have included the critically acclaimed 'Destination 2000', 'The Greeks Bring Love', and '#1 USA...' and after a few member rotations throughout, we're left with the current line-up that also includes Brandon Angle on bass/guitar, Zeke Howard on drums/guitar, and Ryan Davidson on bass. Not only has the band changed, but the music itself has definitely evolved since those first three albums.
Things have really rounded out on 'Sea to Shining Sea', which has a greater sense of stability. Nothing manages to mask however, the underlying feeling of eccentricity that's still there. Former band mates of Jayne's have gone on to do stints with the Red Stars Theory as well as Built to Spill, just to give you an idea of the kind of indie punk/pop to expect. Now take all that and twist it up with some Classic Rock and you now have Love As Laughter. In some ways a less messy Archers of Loaf. Be prepared for a few loooooong songs though, in pure Classic Rock stylings...7, 8 and 10 minutes, some of them. And perhaps it's because the drummer is also a guitarist, but it feels like there's about 15 guitars playing on every track. Get ready to rock out in front of the mirror like you did in high school when you couldn't get enough of that Cheap Trick song 'Surrender'. This is science fiction meets rock ballads 101, for the thoughtful rocker in all of us.
