'Life On A Plate', the second album by Millencolin, Sweden’s finest softcore punk outfit, is a perfect example that America doesn’t totally rule the punk music genre.
Millencolin, who hail from Örebro, were first signed to Burning Heart Records in 1993 and have since been added to Epitaph’s list of superb artists, thus promoting them within the Punk ‘elite’.
As with most popular Swedish bands the lyrics are in English and in Millencolin’s case these are odd to say the least. The album opens with ‘Bullion’, a song which featured on Epitaph’s ‘Punk-O-Rama Volume 2 ', and that would have no doubt wet the appetite of the Punk-O-Rama following. 'Bullion' is simply a prelude to a set of outstandingly written and performed tracks, each one which adds it own dangerously high dose of Red Bull to the proceedings.
‘The Story of My Life’ displays lead singer and bassist Nikola’s interesting sense of individuality. "Breakfast in bed, the bed’s in the kitchen so it’s easy to be fed, and when I’m fed, I go right back to bed".
The entire album with its catchy ska-punk tunes is a lively affair and Nikola's heavily accented vocals are both powerfully asserted and also fascinating . Life On A Plate reached number 4 in the Swedish charts when it was released back in 1995, and since then Millencolin have progressed in leaps and bounds. With numerous shows alongside bands such as No Fun At All, Lagwagon, Pennywise and others involved in the Warped tours, Millencolin have shown that they are worthy to be on any label.
